Today I want to share one of my favorite techniques, using photos as the focal point of your resin castings, and making framed cabochons. I started little-windows.com making custom photo jewelry for people, so I love making pieces like this. This video is full of tips for success in making resin photo cabochons for both jewelry and ornaments.

Working with photos can be tricky, and I want your pieces to turn out great, so I’ll be sharing my tips for resin success. You can use any images, this time I’ll be using some of my own personal photos along with some iconic images of two amazing women - Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. The techniques in this video can also be applied to any other flat materials, like papers, films, and fabrics.

This resin casting project should be done in 3 layers. You can use Brilliant Resin (the safest 2-part epoxy you'll find), for all 3 layers, or you can use a combination of epoxy and UV resin. 

You’ll have limitations with UV resin because we are working with opaque materials that won’t allow the light to fully penetrate.  Chemistry differs between resin brands, Brilliant Resin was developed for jewelry and other small projects like this.

Each cavity includes a built in frame which I’ll use today.

Oval cabochons are a key element in jewelry design. Often  used to make sentimental jewelry concealing secret keepsakes. This could be a photo, a lock of hair, a bit of ashes, any keepsake that reminds you of a special someone.

Traditionally, cameos are said to bring good luck to those who wear them, I like to think of these as modern cameos.
